Apopka, United States - Polarsteps
When you say America, you say guns...
Out of 100 US citizens, roughly 88,8 owns a gun which means that there are at least, roughly 286 million guns in circulation at the moment in the US alone!
Opinions regarding these flexible gun laws are divided worldwide. You often see a lot of (school) shootings in the USA, which makes you think that the flexible gun laws are a bad thing.
On the other hand, Kennesaw, Georgia passed a law in 1982 requiring heads of households to keep at least one firearm in the house. The residential burglary rate subsequently dropped a whopping 89% after the introduction of that law. The current crime rate in Kennesaw is still 85% below national average.
Also a recent study published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy concluded that there is a negative correlation between gun ownership and violent crime in countries internationally (more guns = less crime).
Personally I am not sure what to think of all this. Knowing that almost everyone has a gun does not necessarily make me feel more safe. On the other hand I do see why the crime rates decrease when more people are armed.
Tomorrow I will be driving to Jacksonville for 3 nights, to explore jacksonville, St. Augustine and to hopefully see the rocket launch on Friday at Kennedy Space Centre.
