St. Augustine, United States - Polarsteps

Going back in time, by visiting the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement within the borders of the continental United States........; St. Augustine. Originally discovered by Ponce de Leon in 1513 and established in 1565 by the Spain Pedro Menéndez. In 1702 the English sieged St. Augustine for 50 days, but were unable to conquer the city, so they left after burning down the city while 1500 Spanish citizens fled into the fort. The British attacked again in 1740. They bombed the town for 27 days, with no success either. England defeated Spain in the Seven years war, and Florida was transferred to English control by the Treaty of Paris in 1763. In 1783, Florida returned to Spanish control but not for long. Roughly 38 years later, the Spain cedes Florida to The United States which made it the 27th state of the Union.
