Central Kootenay, Canada - Polarsteps

We woke up in heavy, heavy rain. There was no shelter at the park, so we packed everything up including our soggy tent and headed down the road until we found a closed store with a covered porch where we could sit and make coffee and breakfast. This is usually a miserable kind of day, where we don't know when the rain will end and know that we're going to be setting up wet camping gear at the end of the day. This time, though, we had shelter waiting with Noreen and Jim! We met these two way back on the trail between Grand Forks and Castlegar when they were out for a day ride, and they'd given us their contact information for when we got to Wyndell. They're well travelled and have decades of adventure stories from all over the world; they were really wonderful company and they took amazing care of us, from hanging all our wet gear to dry in their garage to spoiling us with good meals and a comfortable bed for the night. This was such a good, kind, connective encounter and we went on our way rested, replenished, and grateful. -Sara
