Wadi Rum Village, Jordan - Polarsteps

C'est le passage obligé pour le touriste non véhiculé. Rien à voir dans le village. Un parking terreux à l'entrée pour arrêter le chalant avec les 4x4 qui attendent pour attirer les arrivants. Aucun aménagement particulier, les maisons sont de brics et de brocs, ici les gens se débrouillent. Ce sont de grandes familles qui vivaient là avant dans ce désert sous tente et avec leurs bêtes. Quelques supérettes mal achalandés, un boui boui café restau trop cher mais avec une table de ping en véranda où jouent des autochtonnes passionnés. Anciens compétiteurs pongistes que nous sommes, nous dégainons avec Thierry les raquettes. Dans une bonne ambiance, ils hallucinent en nous voyant jouer et se prendre une raclée, ça tourne à la démonstration. Malgré ce contraste entre touristes et pauvreté très visible, les gens d'ici restent très souriants et accueillants. No special facilities, the houses are made of bits and pieces, here people manage. These are large families who used to live here in this desert under tents and with their animals. A few poorly-stocked mini-markets, an overpriced boui boui café-restaurant with a ping-pong table on the veranda where passionate natives play. We are former competitive pong players, and Thierry and I draw our rackets. In a good atmosphere, they hallucinate when they see us playing and take a beating, it turns into a demonstration. In spite of this contrast between tourists and very visible poverty, the people here remain very smiling and welcoming. A not obliged passage thus unless a blow of racket tempts you... 🤪
