Embarquons sur un 3ème workaway... décidément l'Ouganda sera pour nous sous le signe du volontarisme et de l'immersion socio-professionnelle. Après l'audit-consulting de la société de safari sur Entebbe et le plongeon durant une semaine dans une école, nous voilà désormais arrivant dans un lodge "Dave the Cave Eco Lodge" dans une belle région agricole, truffée de lacs de cratère et en bordure du Queen Elizabeth National Park. Décor plutôt sympa, pas pour rien que nous atterrissons dans ces parages, autant joindre l'agréable à l'utile, ou inversement si vous préférez, ça changera pas le guépard en léopard. Le décor est dressé, mais qu'allons nous y faire ? Ma foi en arrivant nous n'en savons rien. 😂 Bricolage, aide au business touristique, accueil client, promotion web réseau sociaux, jardinage, cuisine... ? Le décor est vraiment sympa : "Dave" : le patron à commencé à construire ces 6 cottages voilà 15 ans au fil du temps sur son terrain. "The Cave" : le lodge est construit à flanc de colline, à 30m au-dessus d'un petit lac de cratère, des arbres partout. Au pied du lac, une vraie petite grotte bien sympathique, une rivière qui la traverse et se jette dans le lac. Belle originalité mais pas de mise en valeur particulière. Eco Lodge : Il a planté des arbres, récupéré le bois, construit. Il a un grand jardin à 1 km ou il fait pousser légumes et verdures diverses. Passionnés d'herboristeries médicinales, ça pousse un peu partout. Toutes ses infrastructures sont en matériaux naturels, bien intégré, ensemble harmonieux, reposant et excellente ambiance au sein du personnel, Dave est un peu le "papa" de tous. Des cottages tout en bois bien mignon, de l'eau chaude généré par un réservoir extérieur (probablement un gros bidon) entouré de brique et chauffé par du bois (méthode du four), un nouveau cottage en construction, un bâtiment principal avec une terrasse vue sur le lac... le cadre est reposant, rythmé par le seul bruit de la nature. Finalement après avoir pris la température du lieu et évaluation de quelques attentes et besoins, pour moi ce sera business tourisme où MaLoute me filera un coup de clavier pour saisir des données, tout en s'occupant d'échanges culinaires avec les cuistos. Il était prévu de rester une semaine, nous y resterons 2. Faut dire qu'il y a du taf dans ce monde de papier et de crayon : regrouper toutes les réservations 2024, les saisir, les analyser, élaborer des tableaux de bord et outils d'analyse sur Google sheet... L'ambiance est excellente, toute comme la cuisine avec de bons petits chefs qui sortent les meilleurs plats mangés en Ouganda. Cela reste simple, mais la cuisson et les sauces sont bien maîtrisés et la présentation parfois très recherchée, tout comme cette souris élaborée avec un radis. 👍 _______________________________________________ Come on! Let's embark on a 3rd workaway... Uganda will definitely be for us under the sign of voluntarism and socio-professional immersion. After an audit-consulting session with the safari company in Entebbe and a week's immersion in a school, here we are, arriving at Dave the Cave Eco Lodge in a beautiful agricultural region, dotted with crater lakes and bordering the Queen Elizabeth National Park. It's a pretty nice setting, and not for nothing that we're landing in these parts, so we might as well combine the pleasant with the useful, or vice versa if you prefer, it won't change the cheetah into a leopard. The stage is set, but what are we going to do about it? Well, when we arrived we didn't really know. 😂 DIY, tourism business support, customer reception, web promotion, social networking, gardening, cooking... ? The decor is really nice: ‘Dave": the owner started building these 6 cottages 15 years ago on his land. ‘The Cave": the lodge is built into the hillside, 30m above a small crater lake, with trees everywhere. At the foot of the lake is a really nice little cave, with a river running through it and into the lake. Very original but not particularly attractive. Eco Lodge: Planted trees, salvaged wood, built. He has a large garden 1 km away where he grows vegetables and various greens. Passionate about medicinal herbalism, it grows just about everywhere. All his facilities are made of natural materials, well integrated, harmonious and relaxing, with an excellent atmosphere among the staff. Dave is a bit like ‘daddy’ to everyone. Cute wooden cottages, hot water generated by an outdoor tank (probably a big drum) surrounded by brick and heated by wood (oven method), a new cottage under construction, a main building with a terrace overlooking the lake... the setting is relaxing, punctuated only by the sound of nature. Finally, after taking the temperature of the place and assessing a few expectations and needs, for me it will be business tourism where MaLoute will give me a hand with the keyboard to enter data, while taking care of culinary exchanges with the cooks. The plan was to stay for a week, but we'll be staying for 2. It has to be said that there's a lot of work to be done in this world of paper and pencil: gathering all the 2024 bookings, entering them, analysing them, drawing up dashboards and analysis tools on Google sheet... The atmosphere is excellent, as is the cuisine, with good little chefs coming up with the best dishes eaten in Uganda. It remains simple, but the cooking and sauces are well mastered and the presentation is sometimes very sophisticated, like this mouse made with a radish. 👍
