Alors que l'espérance de vie ici en Ouganda peine à approcher les 65 ans, voilà que Monsieur atteint allègrement et de manière valide ses 90 balais. Et ce monsieur c'est le papa de Dave, le propriétaire du lodge pour lequel nous tentons d'apporter notre contribution. Alors un anniv en Ouganda, comment qu'ils font cela ? Rdv est donné à 13h pour l'arrivée du patriarche dans une salle bien locale, aménagée pour l'occasion de quelques tables, de beaucoup de chaises, d'un coin DJ et d'un petit coin service lunch. Et qui dit Afrique dit forcément musique et danse ! La troupe locale est là, et tout de suite la seule blanche de l'assistance est forcément très vite repérée. Allez hop LaLoute va remuer ton popotin ! et elle s'en sort plutôt bien ! 😂 Placés à une table d'honneur, s'en suivra un bon petit repas copieux, ponctué par quelques danses d'enfants qui, par ce moyen-là, en profitent pour obtenir quelques bonbons ou pour les plus grands quelques billets. Étonnante coutume. Pas assez de tables pour tout le monde mais suffisamment de chaises, et pour manger cela le fait aussi très bien ! Puis c'est le temps des cadeaux (poulet vivant, argent...) et des discours en nombre car forcément le patriarche, tout catholique qu'il est, il a bien contribué au peuplement du pays : 32 enfants, 125 petits enfants 😳, 4 femmes qui ont toujours vécus sous le même toit - à priori en parfaite harmonie familiale, tous les enfants et petits enfants allant à l'école 🙏. Un bel exemple pour ce pays. Et si certains ont des âmes de pâtissiers, y'a du boulot par là ! Le gâteau, esthétiquement simple et joli, est arrivé de Kampala la capitale... ce n'est qu'à une journée de route. While life expectancy here in Uganda is barely approaching 65, the gentleman is now happily and validly turning 90. And this gentleman is Dave's dad, the owner of the lodge for which we're trying to do our bit. So a birthday in Uganda, how do they do that? The date is set for 1pm for the arrival of the patriarch in a very local room, fitted out for the occasion with a few tables, lots of chairs, a DJ area and a small lunch service area. And where there's Africa, there's music and dancing! The local troupe was there, and the only white girl in the audience was quickly spotted. So let's get LaLoute shaking her booty! And she's doing just fine! 😂 Placed at a table of honour, a hearty meal follows, punctuated by a few dances by the children, who take advantage of the opportunity to obtain a few sweets or, for the older children, a few tickets. A surprising custom. There aren't enough tables for everyone, but there are enough chairs, and eating is just as good! Then it's time for the gifts (live chicken, money...) and the speeches, because of course the patriarch, Catholic though he is, has contributed a great deal to the populating of the country: 32 children, 125 grandchildren 😳, 4 wives who have always lived under the same roof - apparently in perfect family harmony, with all the children and grandchildren going to school 🙏 A fine example for this country. A fine example for this country. And if any of you have the soul of a pastry chef, there's work to be done! The cake, aesthetically simple and pretty, arrived from the capital Kampala... it's only a day's drive away. It's the carbon cake par excellence! 😳 Dance and music, it goes on, from ages 3 to 90! 🤪
