Ce jour, nous avons décidé de bouger, de continuer un peu plus vers le sud. Pour le jour de Noël, les Ougandais cassent la tirelire et achète de la viande. Vivons local : achat de viande locale chez le boucher dans la rue, sur le terre plein qui sert de trottoir. Nous filons ensuite traverser le Parc National Queen Elizabeth via une route ouverte. Théoriquement nous devrions voir des animaux, éléphants, lions... Ça peut être sympa et orignal pour Noël... Animaux, zéro en vue, par contre là, sur la piste, ça a l'air d'être un beau bordel. 2 camions côte à côte, bien en vrac. Les bas côtés sont profonds, boueux, impossible de les contourner. Marche arrière ? Détour de 200 bornes, non merci ! Allez patience africaine, place au spectacle ! Un semi-remorque avec remorque s'est presque couché. Un autre moyen camion a quand même voulu passer pour l'éviter. Trop étroit et avec un PTAC multiplié 3, le voilà dans une situation périlleuse. Les heures passent et rien ne bouge vraiment. Ils coupent des arbres pour renforcer la chaussée sous le deuxième camion... D'autres camions et voitures forment désormais un petit bouchon. Un mini-bus intercité vient se rajouter à cette débandade (cf photo). Normalement c'est 13 places, strapontins inclus, mais 20 adultes et 6 enfants sortent de ce mini-bus 😂. Son hayon arrière ne ferme pas. Imaginez les vapeurs d'échappements qui remontent, les odeurs corporelles ou de bouffe, un vrai plaisir sans doute. Pas étonnant qu'ils descendent tous prendre un peu l'air ! Ils font une quête auprès des quelques blancs touristes en voiture de Safari. "Si tu payes, ça permettra de payer des personnes et vous pourrez partir plus vite..." Ils perdent pas le nord... Et le pire, c'est que certains ont donné. L'image du blanc à robinet ouvert continue... 😔 Nous leur apporterons de l'eau, denrée rare ici (aux travailleurs, pas aux touristes pressés qui pour la plupart ne disent même pas bonjour) Ils ont décidé de vider le moyen camion et de tenter une marche arrière. Et de devant, cela ressemble à quoi. pas triste du tout ! Les photos parlent d'elles-mêmes... Une heure pour vider une bonne partie du chargement, le moyen camion recule. Un passage est ouvert pour faire passer les voitures. Pour nous ça passe pas et nous restons coincer avec d'autres camions, en attente. La nuit approche. Pour nous pas de problèmes, nous avons notre Noël original, notre cuisine et notre lit... 🤪. Nuit tombée à 18h30, ils décident de vider le semi-remorque et de tenter une marche arrière... Forcément c'est long mais ils sont vaillants... Youpi ça marche ! 22h, nous sommes libres. Un Noël farfelu qui aura duré 9 h et qui nous a fait traverser ensuite une bonne partie du parc de nuit, trouvant un coin sauvage pour dormir peu avant la sortie du parc, zéro animaux mais de très bons moments ! Pas de cadeaux aux roues de Cargol au réveil mais c'est pas grave 😂 _______________________________________________ Today is Christmas, 24 December, so how can we mark the occasion and be a little original? On this day, we decided to get moving, to continue a little further south. For Christmas Day, the Ugandans break the piggy bank and buy meat. Live local: buy local meat from the butcher in the street, on the pavement. We then head off through the Queen Elizabeth National Park on an open road. Theoretically, we should be able to see animals, elephants, lions... It could be nice and moosey for Christmas... No animals in sight, but on the track, it looks like a real mess. 2 lorries side by side, quite a mess. The verges are deep, muddy and impossible to get round. Reverse? A 200-kilometre diversions, no thanks! African patience, let's get on with the show! A semi-trailer with a trailer almost went down. Another medium lorry tried to get through to avoid it. Too narrow and with a GVWR multiplied by 3, it was in a perilous situation. Hours went by and nothing really moved. They cut down trees to reinforce the road beneath the second lorry... Other lorries and cars now form a small traffic jam. An intercity mini-bus has been added to the chaos (see photo). Normally it seats 13, including folding seats, but 20 adults and 6 children get out of this mini-bus 😂. Its tailgate doesn't close. Imagine the exhaust fumes rising up, the body odours or the food smells, a real pleasure no doubt. No wonder they're all coming down for a breath of fresh air! They collect money from the few white tourists in the Safari car. ‘If you pay, it'll pay for some people and you'll be able to leave quicker...’ They don't lose their heads... And the worst thing is that some of them have given in. The image of the white man with an open tap continues... 😔 We'll bring them water, a rare commodity here (to the workers, not the harried tourists, most of whom don't even say hello) They decided to empty the medium-sized truck and try reversing. And what does it look like from the front? Not at all sad! The photos speak for themselves... It took them an hour to empty a good part of the load, and the medium lorry backed up. A passageway is opened to let cars through. We couldn't get through and were stuck with other trucks, waiting. Night was approaching. No problem for us, we have our original Christmas, our kitchen and our bed... 🤪. Night fell at 6.30pm, and they decided to empty the semi-trailer and try reversing... Of course it takes a long time, but they're brave... Yippee, it works! 10pm, we're free. A crazy Christmas that lasted 9 hours and then took us through a good part of the park at night, finding a wild spot to sleep just before leaving the park, with no animals but a great time! No presents on Cargol's wheels when we woke up, but that's okay 😂
