Esquel, Argentina - Polarsteps
Thumbs up: Esquel let's go! Due to a lack of available seats in the bus, we went hitchhiking. It took us three lifts and some waiting, but we reckon that we were faster than the bus. Especially because our last driver used the road as a racing track: we didn't mind 😁
A reunion with Patrick (Irish, ofcourse) took place in Esquel. He rents a house in Esquel and took some time off from work. In the meanwhile he is studying Spanish tutored by the sweet Adri, who -together with her partner Fede- joined us for these days. We felt like we had a private tour when Patrick picked us up at the camping and drove us to the national park Los Alerces! A park full of lakes and big dangerous trees! Going into nature is an adventure! At one of the lakes we practiced the Argentinean national sport: bbq! Fede prepared it really well: the meat it so different from the Dutch meat, super tasty! You certainly don't need any herbs or sauces!
The next stop will be El Chaltén, however this bus is also full, so we have a day to spare. And what better option than to visit a former Welsh village where the only highlight is tea? We consumed sugar for a week, but is was bloody delicious!
The last day we spent together with Patrick to visit another lake and got ourselves some treats for the long bus trip ahead!
Side Story: we made a new friend on the camping: a silly dog as you can see in the video. When we left, he kept following us, so we asked the camp owners. Apparently now he is ours, because he doesn't belong to the camping. Unfortunately our goodbye gift was not accepted by Patrick 😆
