Río Hurtado, Chile - Polarsteps

🚙On the road again! 🎶 La Serena is the starting point of a new way of traveling: by our own rental! With three main stops we followed a nice circuit through the beautiful valleys! 1️⃣First stop With a stopover at the coast before we go more land inwards, we travel the most kilometers on day 1. First of all, as you might see it in the pictures, our views totally changed from a week ago. 🏞️➡️🏜️ It's much drier, cactuses everywhere and no mud to cause problems. The landscape is also lacking trees. However, not on our first stop. We visit a natural park that, due to the fog which rolls in every day from the Pacific, hosts a diverse forest. It's a crazy place, in the middle of the dry desert the hills suddenly are covered by forests!🌳 And we continue on... After shopping for some groceries in Ovalle, we drive into the beautiful Hurtado valley. It's not touristy at all. Which causes a challenge... The existing campsites are closed🏕️❌. We fear that we have to travel the 2000m high pass in the dark to get to the next bigger settlement. But fortunately, just before the end of the valley we found a spot🥳. It turns out it's one of the better campsites we've ever been on (if not the best). -Urania Spa it's called on Google maps, can recommend🫰- We got a really intimate sitio next to a water creek, there is a hammock, a bed, cute alpaca's🦙 (with, according the the owner, the finest wool in all of South America -and super expensive 😭), as well as a fire pit! We instantly decided to stay for two nights! ✌️ Apart from a stopover to some natural monument the next day, we spend the day relaxing, barbequing and watching the stars.
