If yesterday was the day of the lagunas 💦, today was the day of the rock formations🪨. After a lazy breakfast (everybody still suffered from the altitude), we headed off for al kinds of rock formations: the Copa del Mundo 🏆 (very popular with Argentinians for some reason), the camel🐪 (or whale, according to Frank) and the lost Italian (we also didn't find him, so very aptly named). The area was really photogenic, as Liselot exclaimed: "It's not just because I want to make a picture, I HAVE to make pictures" 📷
After the "monument valley" we stopped at a beautiful 'secret' Laguna. It lies in a rocky area, with loads of llama's grazing in the more meadow spots. The kind guide offered us lollipops 🍭. What a sweet gesture we thought... However, everyone who stops here gets a lollipop from their guides, to get a bit of energy for the small hike. Not so original 😅. On our way back to the car we (the guide) spotted a viscacha, which looks like an unholy unity between a rabbit and a rat🐰.
On the menu was also a beautiful gorge, which is shaped like an anaconda according to our tour-guide 🐍. Personally I think it is very wise that he keeps on guiding in the salt flats, instead of the rainforest😅.
🛤️After lunch we visited a sort of wild west town, complete with an abandoned train in the middle of it (good spot to drink your beer). In the village, the local lunatic apparently has decided to mix beer with all kinds of local ingredients: cactus, quinoa and salt. They were all... interesting, if you want to be nice.
We ended the day on the edge of the great salt flat, in a true salt hotel 🧂. Floors, bed stands, walls, everything was made out of salt. Thank goodness the mattress wasn't! We tucked in early, for the next day we had to get up early to see sunrise on the salt flat..
P.s. bonus points if you can name the plant in the picture!
