Isla del Sol ☀️
Yumani, Bolivia - Polarsteps
💡We hope to impress you with another funfact: we visited the highest lake in the world, it's the Titicaca lake on the border between Bolivia and Peru. To get a good idea of this, we included a picture comparing the great lakes worldwide. The second highest lake is lake Baikal (Russia), which lies around 3.5 kilometers lower than Titicaca (at 4000m).
After staying a night in Copacabana (💡funfact: the famous beach in Rio is named after this pilgrim-village) we took a ferry to Isla del Sol. Among the many islands, Isla del Sol ☀️ and Isla la Luna 🌙 are the most prominent ones. According to the mythes, this is where the Inca god Viracocha shaped the moon and the sun (we also included a picture of this spot, when you see a weird rock picture and thinks what is this failed picture, that's it 🤨). The first Inca's also emerged from this lake. Being the origin of the Inca-empire, some Inca-relics are still visible. We hiked over the high ridge to the other side of the island to look for one of the best-preserved temples. On our way we hiked up a "mountain" (really just a small ridge) at 4100 meters high🏔️. Breathing on this height definitely isn't easy!
And of course, a visit to this spot in Bolivia, cannot be complete without meeting our favourite Uyuni-friends again💕. With a candle-lit diner, we shared their last meal in Bolivia. After this meal, we only spent one more day in Bolivia. A county which we liked, so we'll have to come back sometime. We enjoyed the culture, beautiful cities and still got plenty of places on our list to visit! 🌟
