Dream destination: Galapagos
Parroquia Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, Ecuador - Polarsteps
After our first (!) flight of the trip, a 24-hour stint, we arrived at the Galapagos Islands🐢🏝️(someone who solved my beautiful riddle?). This magical archipelago, teeming with wildlife, will be our home for the next two weeks. On our arrival at the airport, we were already welcomed by red dragons: giant Galapagos land iguanas. 🐲
Since we would explore the western islands of the Galapagos by boat, we decided to spend our days on the main island of Santa Cruz and on the eastern island of San Cristóbal, famous for its enormous amount of sea lions🦭. During the days we mainly hiked and snorkeled a lot🤿. In the evening we enjoyed the piers, from where we could watch sharks hunt fish and sea lions defend their preferred spots. We've seen many different animals, the highlights of which were the majestic hammerhead shark and reef sharks (snorkeling with which is surprisingly not scary at all), the playful sea lions (which can be quite scary when you're snorkeling with them and they race at you!), the marine iguanas (which are the only iguanas which feed in the ocean) and the huge sea turtles. It was amazing to see how close the animals got, without any fear of us.
We think the photos we made, speak for themselves! And there is more to come.. Enjoy!🍹
