Cocora-valley 🌴
Salento, Colombia - Polarsteps
Back to our nature: enjoying nature! 🌴We spent two nights in one of the most beautiful villages we have been to so far. No paint is wasted for the colourful balconies and doors! In the outback of Patagonia we challenged each other to find the most beautiful house. Well this time it was difficult again, but for a wholly different reason!
Apart from seeing the locals chilling on their horses or worshipping the vehicle that replaces their mustang (the jeep, which apparently priests can give blessings to), we spent a full day in the Cocora Valley.
One of these adventurous vehicles, a jeep discarded by the US army, brought us to the starting point of today's hike. A courageous ride, where Frank had to stand on the back. But we made it :)🛻
But wait, where did we end up? Are we in Disneyland? The whole area was transformed into an Insta-park. 🤳 Fortunately, for the people too cool for Instagram, just past this horrible theme park, the road seemed emptier. Apparently most people don't even make it to the valley proper. Because after half an hour hiking we arrived in the Cocora Valley. Named after the enormous palm trees decorating the horizon. 🌴
Even less people we found on the trail. Because why would you even hike 12 km? What, you said you do that for fun? Most of the people we encountered on the path were other gringo's.... But we loved to do some proper hiking and enjoyed the hilly scenery and the scenic river that we followed on the way back down! Oh and we spotted one of the most beautiful birds, a black-collared Jay (dropped a pic from Google, because it was too fast to get this one on camera).
