Valparaíso, Chile - Polarsteps

🚍🚍 Skipping Santiago, a 15 hour bus brought us all the way to Valparaiso! Dubbed as the most beautiful Chilean city, we took a day to explore. It is situated next to the ocean, which confronted us with a mist bank in the morning. This is a common natural phenomenon appearing almost every morning. It's the result of the cold air above the ocean meeting the warmer air above the land. It was only till the late afternoon that we actually got the proof the city lies next to the ocean. However, no beaches. It's another example of city planning gone wrong: no nice boulevard to stroll on with a nice fruit shake in your hand. No, on the contrary, the seaside is full of industry. What did make the city interesting, was the old quarter filled with beautiful murals. They name it an open air museum, which we were happy to explore. And another thing that made us happy: they had beautiful old furniculars (although the one before our hostel was not working 😓). The city is built on several mountains, so taking a little ride up brought some comfort! In the afternoon we had a small reunion with Julia, one of the Swiss girls we met on the ferry to Caleta Tortel. Sharing a beer we took some time to share our travel stories. After our ways separated again we took the evening 'off', chilling from our hostel's balcony! On the day after its again a bus that brings us northwards. ⬆️
