Polarsteps has grown to a team of 100 people and has moved into a larger, newly renovated headquarters in central Amsterdam. Located just steps from its former home, the new office accommodates the company's growing team and ambitions.

Growing with purpose

The expansion follows a period of strong international growth. Earlier this year, Polarsteps surpassed 25 million tracked trips in the app, with Germany, France, and the United States among its fastest-growing markets, and revenue now over €20 million. Since launching as a trip-tracking app in 2015, Polarsteps has broadened its offering to include inspiring destination content, advanced travel-planning features, and printed Travel Books, serving travelers at every stage of their journeys. It’s now one of the most-used travel-planning apps in the world, with the US market expanding rapidly.

As demand  has increased, Polarsteps has continued to grow, scaling with people at the heart of its work. Rather than relying on AI to replace roles, Polarsteps has continued to invest in the people behind its products, with the team using AI as a tool to work more effectively. The company is expanding its engineering, product, design, and support teams to sustain its growing user base and develop new features, including those available with the newly launched Polarsteps Plus.

“We see AI as an opportunity to achieve more and aim higher,” says Clare Jones, CEO of Polarsteps. “AI is also a democratizing force. US tech companies have long had the advantage of many millions in funding, but with AI, companies in Europe also have the chance to scale up much faster - a really exciting opportunity.”

A new home, just around the corner

Polarsteps’ new headquarters at Nieuwe Looiersstraat 29 occupies a historic building with a varied past. Originally built as a warehouse in 1912, it later served as a button factory before being converted into offices in the 1960s. For Polarsteps, the building underwent an extensive renovation to create a modern workspace with spacious floors, meeting rooms, communal areas, and a garden.

“We’re so happy to be in a new spot, but still in the city of Amsterdam, where Polarsteps was born,” Clare adds. “It’s the place that has nurtured us into a top spot among Europe’s travel brands. We’re now expanding internationally, and this is a beautiful space to do that from. As big believers in hybrid work, our team gets to collaborate here.”

The team is still adding personal and creative touches to its new home, including murals by local artist Fernando Leon. Last week's office-warming party also marked the unveiling of a new Polarsteps sign on the building's facade, designed to complement its historic Amsterdam character.
